Editing Data

The utilities for data editing are accessed from the Main Window via the "Group - Edit Data" menu. The patient viewer is opened in edit mode, displaying all patients of the active group with their investigations and karyotypes.

Editing Patient Data

Patient data are edited by clicking on a patient in the patient viewer and then on "Edit". The patient data are displayed on an edit form:

The Data

Data can be edited in their text fields, combo boxes, calendar elements, or checkboxes.

  • "External ID" shows the identifier of the patient in an external database (from where the data were imported).
  • "Name" displays the patient's name.
  • "Sex": "M" means male, "F" female, "U" unknown.
  • "Origin of Data" is the one letter abbreviation denoting the original data type as defined in the import filter.
  • "Diagnosis" is the diagnosis or the morphology of the tumour.
  • "Date of Birth" indicates when the patient was born. If the date is unknown, the present date is displayed in a locked element, and the "Unknown" checkbox on the right is checked. To enter the date, uncheck the checkbox first.
  • "Date of Death" indicates when the patient died. If the date is unknown or the patient is still alive, the present date is displayed in a locked element, and the "Unknown" checkbox on the right is checked. To enter the date, uncheck the checkbox first.

The Menu

The menu is available as a series of buttons on the bottom of the form.

  • "Cancel" closes the edit form without saving the data.
  • "Reset" discards all the changes and resets the values to the original values.
  • "Delete" removes the patient and all his/her subsequent data. You will be prompted if you really want to do so.
  • "OK" saves the changes and closes the edit form. The data in the patient viewer are not updated.

Editing Investigation Data

Investigation data are edited by clicking on an investigation in the patient viewer and then on "Edit". The investigation data are displayed on an edit form:

On top of the form, patient data ("Doe, John...") are displayed for information purposes.

The Data

Data can be edited in their text fields, combo boxes, calendar elements, or checkboxes.

  • "External ID": The identifier for the investigation in an external database (from where the data were imported).
  • "Date of Investigation": the date when the investigation was performed. Check the "Unknown" check box on the right, if the date is unknown.
  • "Age at Investiagtion": the age of the patient (in years) at the date of investigation.
  • "Topography": the topography of the tumour can be selected from the combobox.
  • "Reference" links to a reference in the Mitelman database. Enter the number of the reference or check the "None" checkbox if the data are not from the Mitelman database.

Editing Karyotype Data

Karyotype data are edited by clicking on a karyotype in the patient viewer and then on "Edit". The karyotype data are displayed on an edit form:

On top of the form, patient data ("Doe, John...") and investigation data are displayed for information purposes.

The Data

Data can be edited in their text fields, or radio buttons.

  • "Number" indicates the number of the clone. It is 1 in monoclonal karyotypes.
  • "Clone Size" is the number of metaphases supporting this clone. 0, if unknown.
  • "Modal Chromosomes" denotes the medium number f chromosomes.
  • "ISCN" or "CGH" determine if the formula entered denotes results from chromosome banding (ISCN) or from a comparative genome hybridisation (CGH). The formula is entered into the textbox below.
  • "SCCN Qualitative" shows the structural aberrations is SCCN style. This is a calculated value and cannot be changed manually. To update it after changing the ISCN / CGH formula, click on the "Check" button.
  • "SCCN Quantitative" shows the gains and losses is SCCN style. This is a calculated value and cannot be changed manually. To update it after changing the ISCN / CGH formula, click on the "Check" button.
  • "Nomenclature Errors" shows errors in  the formula. This is a calculated value and cannot be changed manually. To update it after changing the ISCN / CGH formula, click on the "Check" button.

  • "Check" checks the ISCN / CGH formula for errors and updates the "SCCN Qualitative", "SCCN Quantitative", and "Nomenclature Errors" fields.
  • "OK" saves the changes and closes the edit form. The data in the patient viewer are not updated.
