In this section you can find computing resources for cytogenetic research.
ISCN Software
-
Liang Ping, Rosewell Institute: Karyotype
Reader
This online software is said to analyse data from the Mitelman database or data stored in other textfiles. The output file contains a list of gains, losses and structural aberrations per chromosomal band.
As of February 2004, the program did not cope with derivative chromosomes. No error messages were given when karyotypes contained errors. -
Mads Hjorth: karyotype syntax parser
This is a strict karyotype syntax checker for checking a karyotype formally. If errors are encountered, they are well described.
The program cannot check the meaning of an aberration. -
Gunnar G. Hansen & Felix Mitelman: KaryCorrect
This is a Java Applet checking a karyotype formally. If errors are encountered, they are well described.
Also this program cannot check the meaning of an aberration. -
Progenetix: "Karyotype
cytoband table converter"
The program is said to convert chromosomal aberration information from a strict ISCN related format into a band specific matrix. All tests of this program failed due to programming errors on the site of Progenetix. -
Bulashevska, Heidelberg: ISCN
Parser: a Software Tool for Interpreting Cytogenetic Data ...
No closer information than that short communication above is available, and no publication showing results established with that software was found. -
P.N. Scriven (1998): "Communicating Chromosome Rearrangments and their
Outcomes Using Simple Computer-Generated Color Ideograms", Genetic Testing
2(1):71-74
describes the use of MS Word and Paint Shop Pro for manually drawing aberrant chromosomes. -
Craig Larman (1992): "Learning
From Knowledge Systems" (Ph.D. thesis)
describes an analysis software for ISCN data. A textual description to the ISCN formula is computed. -
Hashimoto T, Kamada N, Yamamoto H, Munaka M (1989): "A computer program
for analysis of chromosome abnormalities", Nippon Ketsueki Gakkai Zasshi
52(1):38-48
This software is based on an elder version of the ISCN. - Kamada N, Yamamoto H, Tanaka K, Ohtaki M, Ueoka H, Munaka M, Kuramoto A (1983): "Analysis and rearrangement of human karyotypes by computer", Cancer Genet Cytogenet 10(1):17-22
